Cyanotypes or sunprints are beautiful blue prints created by using the sun. Originally discovered in 1848 and used to quickly reproduce notes, this process continues to be used to make blueprints. Wonderful silhouette effects can be created using natural objects like leaves and feathers. You can also make photo prints from black and white photos. We'll show you how to do both!

Using special paint we'll turn our fabric into a light sensitive medium. We'll have some fabric for you to use. If you'd like to bring your own item (tshirt, tote bag, pillow case) just make sure it's white or cream and at least 50% cotton. Everyone will get to make 3 prints.

We will be making our own negatives to print from. Once you register for the class you can send your images to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Any photo that looks good in black and white will work. We will also have some classically Memphis images to chose from.

Bring some objects to add to the fun. Think about the shapes of the things around you. Leaves, flowers, and feathers are classic cyanotype subjects. Some other things with interesting outlines: lace, buttons, nuts and bolts, plastic army dudes, keys, etc.
